The LIFT Tour 2024

The LIFT Tour is a two-day weekend experience for middle and high school students designed to intentionally create an environment where students can EXALT Christ through Christ-centered worship, ENGAGE through biblical teaching, and be EQUIPPED with the necessary tools needed to be salt and light for their generation.

I N V E R S E: Counter-Cultural Teachings of Jesus

Historically, Jesus, the Messiah, was one of the most interesting and intriguing people to ever live, not just because of His divinity but also because of how He lived and what He said. Whether or not you are a Christian, you must admit that His life was captivating. The words He spoke, the stories He told, and His polarizing effect on culture and people made Him one of the most fascinating people to ever live. Most notably, throughout His ministry, Jesus made some shocking claims that were challenging, controversial, and counter cultural. That’s what made His teachings so inverted from the teachings of the day… they were contrary to the cultural norms. When talking about Jesus, we often focus on the grace and the love that Jesus showed others; however, that’s only one side of Jesus. Jesus also said many things that shocked people and caught them off guard. So much so, that even Jesus’ disciples, in John 6:60 (CSB), struggled with some of Jesus’ teachings: “Therefore, when many of His disciples heard this, they said, ‘This teaching is hard. Who can accept it?” And, if we are honest, this question is still being considered today… Who can or will accept Jesus’ teachings?

The theme for The LIFT Tour 2024 is I N V E R S E. Inverse simply means, “something that is the opposite or reverse of something else.” When Jesus spoke, His teachings were the inverse of what culture was and is saying. It was the opposite of what we would assume to be true. This year we will explore some of the most challenging and controversial teachings of Jesus. One of the most common truths that have regularly been applied to the person of Jesus is the fact that He comforted the afflicted and afflicted the comfortable. Yes, Jesus said and demonstrated the most loving, accepting, and grace-filled things. However, He also taught complicated truths that even perplexed the people who knew Him best. Why? Because Jesus taught both grace AND truth! So, if we want to have the power to truly change our lives and this world, learning how to navigate the tensions between Jesus’ teachings on grace and truth is essential. Therefore, during The LIFT Tour 2024, we will highlight four counter cultural claims made by Jesus. W E L C O M E to the I N V E R S E!!!!

SESSION ONE – UNITY: DIVISION GIVES BIRTH TO TOGETHERNESS (LUKE 12)

SESSION TWO – LOVE: DISMISS THE “EYE FOR AN EYE” IDEOLOGY (LUKE 6)

SESSION THREE – COMPASSION: DEMONSTRATE COMPASSION OVER POLARIZATION (MATTHEW 7)

SESSION FOUR – SUBMIT: DECIDE TO FOLLOW JESUS… IT’S THE BEST OPTION (MATTHEW 16)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my organization be an Exhibitor at The LIFT Tour?

Yes! We have several opportunities for you to partner with us. Click here to learn more and click here to apply. All applications must be received by December 8, 2023. Applications are considered on a rolling basis.

In light of the current events, are there any health guidelines for the LIFT Tour of which attendees should be aware?

As we approach this event, our collective desire is to host  you in the more traditional format that was familiar to all of us pre-Covid without masks or social-distancing requirements. Yet, we acknowledge that local, state, and national regulations may necessitate a format change or transition. In the event of this, the LIFT Team will stay in communication with you if any updates need to be made.  In the meantime, here are some safe community guidelines to take note of.

  • Be a Good Neighbor: Attendees should stay home if feeling unwell or have been exposed to someone with COVID in the past 5 days
  • Masks: Masks are strongly recommended for the duration of the conference, regardless of vaccination status. All attendees should be sure to pack masks as LIFT does not provide them.
  • Social Distancing: We encourage you to sit together with your group during all sessions and mealtimes and social distance as much as possible from those you did not travel with.
  • So you can arrive feeling prepared, here is what happens should an attendee get sick while on site:
    • You should separate the person from others as well as anyone that has been exposed to the symptomatic individual.
    • Notify LIFT Tour Staff.
    • Gather their belongings and arrange for them to go home.

Are there special hotel options for LIFT Tour cities?

Yes, for some cities we will post in late fall a hotel with a discounted rate for The LIFT Tour groups. You will need to contact and book the hotel rooms directly through the hotel. All payment and booking questions will go through the hotel as well. Check the website of the LIFT city that you are interested in to see if we have a group hotel option posted.

Are meals included at LIFT – Gwinnett County?

Saturday lunch is provided and included with registration costs.

Are discounts available for pastors?

Any new group is allowed up to two free adult registrations for the primary youth pastor + their spouse as a special gift from the LIFT Team. A new primary student pastor who is attending for the first time has the opportunity to attend The LIFT Tour for free regardless of whether they bring a group or not. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this must call 407-248-0300 ext. 20 before making payment for the group to receive the discount. Please email us here if you would like to attend LIFT and are not planning to bring a group. We would like to help you make arrangements and provide you with some more information.

How do I bring The LIFT Tour to my city?

We typically look at dates & cities 12-18 months in advance. With most LIFT Tour host sites, there are at least 10 churches that make up a network who agree to bring at least 800 students collaboratively. If you are interested in hosting The LIFT Tour, please fill out our host application here.

I have small children, can they attend with me?

We think families are great, and time together is important. Yet, this event is only for middle and high school students and their adult leaders. We want everyone to have the best experience possible at this event, so please make arrangements to leave your children under 10 years old at home or arrange for childcare while you serve or attend the event.

What is Student Leadership University?

The vision of SLU is one that is optimistically looking forward towards the goal of empowering, enabling, and equipping students around the globe to rise to the call of leadership along with training students to be able to adequately respond to the challenges presented by an increasingly pluralistic and postmodern culture. Our vision is to train up a generation of leaders who will effectively engage their world on all levels with a contagious passion for Christ in a manner that is also full of both grace and truth. Our vision is to change the world…one student at a time.

Our four cumulative experiences take students behind the scenes of Orlando or San Antonio (101), Washington D.C. (201), Europe (301), and the Holy Land (401) to learn the essence of leadership.
