At 9 years old, Zac attended a special Operation Christmas Child event at church where his mom oversaw the shoebox distribution. She called the names of the children invited from the community first, saving Zac’s name for last to make sure the other kids had each received a gift. The spirit of celebration among his friends as they opened their shoeboxes captured his attention. When Zac finally opened his own gift, he was overjoyed to receive school supplies, a jump rope, and toy cars—which he made dirt tracks for around the outside of his house. His favorite item was a yellow yo-yo.
