SLU 101 - Frequently Asked Questions
Two dinners (Friday and Saturday) and one lunch (Saturday).
As we approach this event, our collective desire is to host you in the more traditional format that was familiar to all of us pre-Covid without masks or social-distancing requirements. Yet, we acknowledge that local, state, and national regulations may necessitate a format change or transition. In the event of this, the SLU Team will stay in communication with you if any updates need to be made. In the meantime, here are some guidelines to take note of.
- Be a Good Neighbor: Attendees should stay home if feeling unwell or have been exposed to someone with COVID in the past 5 days.
- So you can arrive feeling prepared, here is what happens should an attendee get sick while on site:
- Separate the person from others.
- Separate anyone that has been exposed to the symptomatic individual.
- Notify SLU.
- Gather their belongings and send them home.

SLU 201 - Frequently Asked Questions
If you want to arrive early for SLU 201 and book additional hotel nights, you can do that directly through SLU when you fill out the rooming list for your group. There is a section to request additional nights and then all of your hotel arrangements can be made directly through SLU. The hotel rates are as follows (like many business hotels, the hotel rates are less expensive on the weekends):
- July 11-13: Rooms are $179 per night.
- July 13-18: Extra nights and additional rooms for those not attending the conference are $266 per night. The rooming cost for the 10-14 is already included in registered attendee’s program fee.
As part of the registration process, you will submit a rooming list no later than 45 days before the conference. If you are attending by yourself, SLU will do our best to place you in a room with other SLU students of the same gender and similar age. Rooms may not be co-ed unless members of the same family. One individual student under 18 cannot be in a room by themselves. SLU will not room a student with an adult over 18 if they are not from the same group. Tuition rates are based on four people sharing a room (in a 2-bed hotel room). If you are unable to fill a room completely and SLU is unable to do so, additional charges will apply ($266 for each empty spot). You may be billed after the final payment date for room accommodations that are not quad occupancy, as necessary. Rollaway beds are not available. Rooms will be available at 3:00 pm.

Regardless of reason, cancellations and transfers cost Student Leadership University. To offset these costs, the following fees will apply. In fairness to others, we cannot make exceptions.

Students will not be met at the airport. You must make transportation arrangements to and from the hotel. We recommend arriving at the hotel by 1:00 pm so you can check-in with us and get settled before SLU 201 kicks off.
- Metro: The hotel has lobby access to the Crystal City Metro stop. Please note that there are TWO Marriott Hotels in Crystal City, so it is important you go to the Gateway Marriott. When you come out of the metro and see the two doors that say Marriott, take the door on the right.
- Taxi/Cab/Uber: The estimated fare for a taxi from Reagan National (DCA) is approx. $10, and Uber is slightly less than this.
- Hotel Shuttle: The hotel has a complimentary 12 passenger shuttle that runs every 20 minutes from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3 PM to 9 PM. The shuttle picks up at ground transportation. Look for the Crystal City Gateway Marriott shuttle.
- *Due to the number of students flying to SLU 201, the hotel cannot guarantee transportation for all attendees in a timely manner. SLU recommends participants consider one of the first two options.
Yes! There are three different airports that you may choose to fly into that service the DC Metro area: Reagan/ National (DCA), Baltimore (BWI), and Dulles (IAD). We recommend that all participants fly into Reagan National (DCA) as it is the closest airport to the hotel. We recommend that a flight into the other airports needs to be at least $100 cheaper to justify flying into them as you will end up paying that cost in travel to and from the airport. When scheduling flights, note that our program registration will begin at 1:00 PM and the first SLU 201 event begins at 4:15 PM so try and get flights that arrive no later than 12:00 PM We are done at 11:45 AM on Friday, so you would be safe booking a flight out of DCA that leaves 2:30 PM or later.
For groups needing assistance making flight arrangements, SLU recommends contacting Go Travel Company. Ask for Kathy Nau at 800-800-7703 ext. 116 or [email protected]. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Kathy is a great resource in helping groups find affordable flights
To attend as a single, a student must be at least 16 years old. To attend with a group, students should be at least 15 years old and have completed the 8th grade.
All student attendees must have completed the SLU 101 program before attending SLU 201. We also recommend spreading the experiences out and not completing them in the same summer.
SLU 301 - Frequently Asked Questions
You have two options for registering you and your students for SLU 301. Either is fine with us – we just want you to be able to do what is best and easiest for you. Either option below will ensure your groups are put on the same bus and in the same hotel as long as you fill in the same group name during registration.
- Register as one Group via our online form: This means your church/organization is paying SLU for everyone in your group. You can only register this way through our online form. You will need to download and fill out this spreadsheet completely for each member of your group and submit in the provided portal. Please note that you will be held accountable for the registration terms if you register this way (even though you don’t “sign” the terms as you do on our registration site). Go here to make sure you understand the trip terms. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
- Register as an Individual or Family through our website: You will choose this option if everyone in your group is paying separately. We can still keep your group together on the same bus and at the same hotel, but you don’t have to handle the payments as a group. Just have your students enter the same group name when prompted so we know to keep you together.
Yes, you will meet SLU, with your luggage, at London Heathrow Airport baggage claim at 8:00 am on July 21, 2025 .
It is your responsibility to meet up with the group on July 21, 2025. If you have flight delays or are unable to meet the group at the scheduled time, travel arrangements and costs associated with meeting up with the group will be your responsibility.
Please note that there are a number of different terminals at this airport and you will receive an email about one month prior to the trip noting the terminal where you need to meet us if you are flying on your own.
- If your flight is delayed, or if you have an emergency on the travel date, you can contact our SLU 301 launch team staff member at your designated airport or our Orlando office at (888) 260-2900. You will be emailed their information approximately one month before the trip.
- For sleeping on the flight, try Advil PM, Dramamine or Benadryl with your doctor’s permission.
- When you arrive for your international flight: immediately check-in and get your boarding pass and then check-in with your SLU staff member. One hour before the flight: you must be at the departure gate for your flight so you are ready to board.
SLU does not send your child on these trips; we take your child. We would never risk your child’s safety or our own. We actively watch for updates from the government on security issues or concerns. Should there be a major security issue, the government will alert the public and the airlines will respond accordingly. All travelers should consider registering at https://step.state.gov/step/ through the US Department of State as it allows them to better assist you should an emergency arise either at home or abroad.
We strongly recommend that you purchase travel protection as SLU prepays all hotels, meals, transportation, etc. 45 to 120 days before you attend the conference. However, it is your responsibility to arrange transportation to and from this domestic departure city.
- You need about $120 for meals, tips, and optional soft drinks. You can get British pounds and Euros at a local American Express office in the U.S. or your local bank. Credit cards are also widely accepted and shopping times vary based on the schedule. Included in this suggested $120 is:
- You have two meals you are responsible for at SLU 301.
- Coach Driver and Guide Tips: Each participant (students and adults) should plan to bring $80 total for this. Tips can be in any currency, as long as the value adds up to $80, but it is best in US dollars. We will collect all of this money at the beginning of the trip so that we can distribute this to our guides and drivers throughout the trip in both Paris and London.
- Cost of ETIAS Visa Waiver for Europe (anticipated to be $7.70).
- Outside of souvenirs, there are some optional opportunities you may want to bring money for:
- There are optional tours that you may take advantage of during your free time at Oxford, such as the C.S. Lewis walk or The Christ Church, as well as great shopping opportunities, so plan to bring some extra money for this.

A $500 deposit is due at the time of registration, and an additional $750 is due on February 21, 2025. The remaining balance is due on April 21, 2025. Any registration not paid in full by this day will incur a $25 late fee. You have the following options for your registration payments:

Passport: Everyone registered for SLU 301 will need a passport. The passport must be valid for six months after the completion of the trip and have two blank pages. You will need to submit your passport number 120 days prior to your trip, so we recommend you apply for your passport immediately, if you do not have one. To enter your passport information- login to your account, select registration, and then select edit attendee.
Visa:
- Starting in 2024, US passport holders will need to obtain a ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa waiver to enter Europe (anticipated to cost $7.70). SLU will send out information to all registered attendees once this system is active for attendees to secure this as some information is still finalizing from the EU on the specific launch date of this.
- If you will be traveling on SLU 301 with a passport from a country other than the US, it is your responsibility to confirm the specific requirements by both the UK and France regarding the passport you hold and obtain a VISA in advance, if necessary.
Entry requirements for countries are constantly updated due to regulations surrounding COVID-19. Currently it is believed that proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test could be a requirement for international travel and country entry for non-residents in at least one of the border crossings during this trip. Please note: this is not a requirement of SLU, but is a government requirement of where we are traveling. You are signing up for this trip knowing that is a possibility. If you are unable to receive a vaccine before the trip, you will still be subject to the terms of the cancellation policy. Any updates to entry requirements will be communicated to all registered attendees.
