Vision for the Artist in Residence Program:

It is SLU’s desire to give our audience of student ministry practitioners and educators space to wrestle with worldview type questions that relate to the fast-changing landscape of their student ministries and communities. The vision for this space is that the discussions are crafted and cultivated under the wisdom and guidance of a thought leader.  In our second year, we are proud to introduce to you, Bethany Barr Phillips.

Not only do we believe these discussions will be rich with content and encouraging for those that walk alongside students, but we also believe they will serve as resources for students, parents, and student pastors alike throughout the year and beyond. Our goal is to continue to equip you with resources that help you get some questions answered.

Bethany Barr Phillips

Bethany Barr Phillips is a worship leader, writer, communicator, and team mentor with a passion for theology and connection in the local church. With multiple records, singles, books, and projects, Bethany serves within the local church setting as well as on the road bringing interdenominational perspective and clarity through years of experience and a masters from Moody Theological Seminary.

Writing comes natural to Bethany as it’s always been an outlet for her to process pivotal moments in life. One of her multiple full-length albums contains the songs she wrote through her journey with cancer. The author of two devotional books (Facing Your Fears and Anchor), she truly has a heart to help others learn the Bible and how it applies to their lives.

Bethany also has a passion for others to walk in their calling where ever that may be. She co-hosts a podcast (Women in Worship) and teaches weekly within her local church's ministry school.

Currently, Bethany travels leading worship & communicating, as well as serving as a worship leader at her home church all while working on a new writing with a future release date. Bethany and her husband, Andy, have one teenage daughter, Isaiah Jewel.
